Star Wars: Why I Appreciate the Prequel Trilogy More than the Original
With the re-release of 'Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace' this weekend, I thought I'd share a few of my own personal thoughts on Episode I, both as a film and as the starting point for one of the most maligned trilogies in film history.
I'm with you 100% on all counts. To this day, the visuals and music from Phantom Menace are as definitive of the Star Wars saga as the original movie are. And as technically bad as they were, I can still have fun with them.
I don't hate the prequels as much as some others do. I just feel that Lucas was so focused on the eye candy, that the opportunity to have great characters was missed. Episode III definitely stands out as the best of the bunch for me because there was finally a great villain chewing up the scenery in the Emperor.
